Foxtrot Tours

Lanyon Quoit, near Lands End, Cornwall.

Discover the history, landscape, breathtaking locations, legends and folklore of the UK from prehistory to the present day on an excursion with me, Jules Landau, as your personal and private tour guide.

My tours are primarily day-trips based in the South West region, covering The Cotswolds, Bath, Bristol, Stonehenge, Salisbury, Old Sarum, Avebury, Wye Valley, Dorset, and Devon.

You will be picked up from and returned to your accommodation in comfort and style. Lunch and refreshment breaks can be discussed and arranged prior to your booking to suit your tastes and dietary requirements. Lunch is generally taken in a traditional old fashioned pub, sometimes with a ghost or two!

I offer bespoke tour planning that can be arranged to suit your interests, itinerary and budget, and unlike some other tour companies, I won’t pass you on to another guide with whom no rapport has been built – if you book a Foxtrot Tour, you are guaranteed to get me, Jules Landau, and only me, as your personal guide.

The private nature of these tours means that as my guests, you and your interests will always be front and centre – we can remain fluid and tweak our day to suit whatever the weather, with no being herded along with folk you don’t know!

Longer excursions further afield are also possible – exploring Wales, Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons, The Lake District, Dartmoor, Cornwall and the Lands End peninsula, Scotland and the Isles to name but a few possibilities.

Why choose me as your Tour Guide?

I have loved being a Tour Guide in various guises for over thirty years.

As a keen amateur historian with a particular interest in the broad sweep of British history from the prehistoric to the here and now, I set up Foxtrot Tours to help you get the most out of your visit – particularly in the West Country, Bath, Cotswolds, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Welsh regions.

I always strive to deliver great stories in stunning destinations, in a way that relates the rich human tapestry of these beautiful lands. Whether its the picture postcard beauty of Cotswold villages, the majesty of our many castles, gardens and stately homes, or the enduring mystery of Stonehenge, Avebury or a thousand other prehistoric sites, I can help tailor your day out to make the most of your stay.

My first regular ‘gig’ in the touring world was at Cosmeston Medieval Village just outside of Cardiff in South Wales during the 1990s, where prancing, dancing and enchanting as a 14th Century bard by the name of ‘Mad Jeffrey’ supplemented my Fine Art degree studies for five happy years.

I have also worked as a Tour Guide of the City of Bath upon open top buses, walking tours, ghost tours, and as a VIP guide at Longleat Safari Park, as well as delivering bespoke, private tours of the West Country and Wales for single or multi-day excursions.

The testimonials below are the words of some of the many folk I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with, and I hope they will speak for themselves.

Tour Reviews and Testimonials.

  • This was our last day in Bath Spa. We were unsure what to do. NO Regrets. Our guide Jules was amazing. He was intelligent, knowledgeable, affable, charming, engaging. He made our tour engaging, educational, and entertaining. I was sad when it ended. If I go back, I would take this tour again as it was so much fun.” – 2023.
  • We simply cannot say enough about HOW AMAZING this day was, and how spectacular Jules Landau our guide was. He is fantastically knowledgable and engaging, treating us to a day full of historic intrigue, classic sites and a charming, relaxing and intimate meal at a local tasty spot. Jules is very personable, and made us feel “at home” while we toured around Somerset. He is quite adept at making history both accessible and relatable. Our day with Jules was filled with laughter, awe and appreciation for the beautiful countryside that is Somerset and Stonehenge. We are a couple on our honeymoon and were with a young family – and all of us were equally tickled by the whole day.” – 2022,
  • Fantastic! Jules Landau, our guide, gave us a fun, informative, fascinating tour of the Cotswolds. His choices for stops to explore were very interesting, not overwhelming, and even though it was raining we had a splendid day. Highly recommend!
  • The tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Bath. I can’t recommend enough. From the first initial contact to the very last moment our tour guide Jules Landau was just the best. His wealth of knowledge of the area’s iconic churches and quaint villages is quite impressive. We visited Malmesbury and little hamlets like Tiddleywink and Lacock. Also Jules accommodated our request to take a quick drive up to the Royal Crescent. We hadn’t made it there yet so really appreciated as wasn’t included in the tour we purchased. I highly recommend using this small hands on tour company. You won’t regret one single moment of it. Especially if you have Jules as your guide. One of the personal touches was the photos he took of us on the way and then shared them with us so we could just relax and take it all in.’ Vancouver, 2023.
  • ‘Today I took my mum on the VIP silver trip who is disabled and struggles without her wheelchair. I wondered if it was even possible for her to experience this for her birthday and it absolutely was. We were both absolutely thrilled with our day, not only was every part of the experience enjoyable and exciting but the staff who were involved were absolutely amazing! Our tour guide was Jules – he was perfect in every way, he helped my mum to experience every part and made our tour so fun and knowledgeable. We were greeted with smiles and welcomed onto the tour – we knew then our day was just going to be amazing! We had the most amazing day and really want to express our thanks to these wonderful people for making it amazing! Thank you!!’ July 2023.
  • “Just wanted to say that everyone today are always so very quick to judge negatively and complain. However hardly anyone takes the time to praise and give positive praise when it’s due.  Yesterday we were lucky enough to join your staff on a gold VIP experience. Wow it was the most amazing experience ever, the staff were amazing from all the keepers who shared their knowledge with us to the waitress who looked after us at lunch.  Our star of the day was our guide Jules, he was fabulous (as I’m sure all the guides are) there was nothing too much trouble and he made a great experience an absolutely memorable one for all the right reasons. Well done Longleat team, keep doing an amazing job.” September 2023.
  • “Thank you thank you thank you!  We came to Longleat yesterday (Sunday 27th August) and had a bronze VIP tour and it was absolutely amazing. We were on a 2pm tour with Jools and he was brilliant, so much information and answering questions and got us so close to some of the animals. Being able to see the big cats so closely is a memory and experience that we will remember forever, my boys (Thomas and Rory) adore animals (as do me and my partner!) and we struggle on big group tours (we are all actually adhd / autistic) so this was the perfect way for us to experience the safari. Please can you pass on our thanks to Jules for making it such a brilliant experience.” August 2023.
  • Lucy & I had our Gold VIP experience today and I would like to offer some feedback. We both want to say a heartfelt thank-you to all of you involved in the experience. I found you so helpful with the booking and queries prior to the day which was so reassuring and so much appreciated.
We had a fantastic day which exceeded our expectations. Jules was such a knowledgeable and engaging guide and was great company through the day. Every single member of the team we met were obviously passionate caring about the animals in their charge, which was heart-warming and a testament to the commitment Longleat obviously have to animal welfare and preservation of wonderful species. We were amazed at not only the level of care but the pristine condition of the park.
Once again, thank you for a real memory and a faultless day. We will be recommending this for sure and once again, would you please pass on grateful thanks from Lucy and I.
    Kind Regards, Nick.’ September 2023

  • I just want to say a big thank you to Jules who was our guide on out VIP safari on Saturday 23 September. We had a great time and learnt so much from him.  We had a 6 month old with us who was over tired and cried quite a lot and quite load until he eventually went to sleep.  Jules was great and took it in his stride and then continued talking to us once he was asleep and he kept the vehicle moving to get him to sleep, he was great. We had the best day – and Jules was the biggest part of that – as well as the amazing animals obviously

Thank you, Jules, and all the Longleat staff ’ August 2023.
